Location
I took this photo in a wildlife park, in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The park is part of the Arroyo Maldonado(Maldonado's stream) that ends in the ocean. It's one of our sites that was added to Ramsar protected parks . Ramsar is an international institution.Time
It was around 7.00 pm when I took this photo, with the sun slowly falling down, and the moon coming just on the opposite side. The Pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana), were offering such an amazing contrast with the sun just hiding behind them.Lighting
I wanted this photo to show my feelings when I catch a beautiful sunset. Dark side coming in, as light is fading away. The mystery of the night and the warm of the sun, gave me the idea to make this photo with a slow motion added to the photo. Two photos were involved in this capture, one was just a very focused photo, and the other had a slight movement, for softening.Equipment
Believe it or not, I used my Canon 5Dsr, plus my big, very big Tamron 150-600. Why? Cause I was photographing birds, but the fact is ,that in photography, something, catches our eyes, and it doesn't matter which equipment we may use, it's always about what we envision. I used a Manfrotto tripod, to stabilize the glass and camera, but no flash was included at all.Inspiration
Usually , at sunsets I love photographing birds, they offer a myriad of movement, but in this special photo, I was caught within the light, and all it's marvels. The colors, the warmth. My vision about a sun just fading into the other side of the earth. My feeling of a day that was finishing, and I didn't want to go home, I just wanted to stay there, hidden between the Pampas grass, watching the sky, feeling the life that was awakening with the late afternoon hours. The nocturnal life that is always there, even if we can't always see it.Editing
I usually process my photos, either with Lightroom, Photoshop, or Capture One. In this case I make a composition of two of the photos taken, with my tripod, to make a composition later on the develop module. I added just a bit of saturation and contrast. In my camera bag
My bag tends to be quite big. My aim are usually either birds, or macro photography. So, my Think Tank bag carries : 2 bodies, : Canon 5Dsr, and Fuji xt-2 (Just bought my xt-4) . Lenses: Tamron 150-600 - Tamron 90mm G2 for macro. Those are for canon. Lenses: Fujinon xf 80mm- Fujinon xf 16-55- Fujinon xf 400 mm. Flashes: Yongnuo YN968EX-RT Speedlite Wireless, Flash Kit for Canon Cameras, Nissin i60A Flash for FUJIFILM Also several filters, depending on the kind of photography I will make. Tripod: Manfrotto 190 x series (Carbon fiber), plus an Oben head.Feedback
I am 60 years old, and I learnt photography quite late, but I am still learning every day. My best advice is first of all, take out your camera, and make photos. Then learn about composition, and postprocessing. And for sunsets, look out withing your neighbourhood, you don't have to go out very far to get a good photo. You just need observation. Patience and observation , plus some planning are key to any good photography. Just learn about your camera, learn how to use it with your eyes closed :) Enjoy your Photography !
