The photo was taken at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire.Time
It was taken early afternoon on a rare sunny Yorkshire day!Lighting
I liked the way the light was shining through the windows to the side and reflecting onto the arches.Equipment
This was actually one of the first pictures I took when I started getting into photography before I got a new camera. I used FinePix S5400. Aperture f/3.1 exposure 10/450 exposure 430/100 ISO 400Inspiration
Walking around the abbey there were so many beautiful spots. As it was a nice day, it was pretty busy. When I saw this little corridor it just looked really pretty with the sun shining through. It was totally empty and calm compared to the chaos and noise of the rest of the abbey.Editing
As this was one of my first pictures I played around a bit on photoshop but didn’t know too much what I was doing. I tried lots of different things using curves especially and decided it looked cool in black and white. I also have other saved versions of the picture but think black and white is the best. It adds a bit of mystery and elegance I think. In my camera bag
I’m very much a beginner still and this is (an expensive) hobby for me so I don’t have loads of kit. I have my Nikon D3300 with the kit lens and I also have a wide angle and a telephoto lens. I have recently been experimenting with an ND filter and I always take my tripod.Feedback
My best advice is to just go for it. Experiment with different lights and try to find the spot that other people haven’t. It’s better to have too many pictures of something than not enough! I think photography is all about your personal preference as well so whilst trying to recreate a picture you’ve already seen is fun, it’s nice to experiment with your own ideas and see what works for you.
