This proud woman was sitting outside her pounded mud and bamboo home while her nearby mother threaded jasmine flowers for sale in the local market. Maithili tribals are one of the many ethnic minorities of Nepal. Their history can be traced back to written histories of the 4th Century, when their own country was known as the kingdom of Maithila, ruled by a kind Janaki. They have their own language and customs, and number over 1,000,000.
