Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the country roads around Central Illinois where I live. I'm not sure exactly where, I just wanted to practice with my camera so I just took off driving.

Time

I work night shift, that send to me up my sleeping plans on the weekend, so I ended up leaving the house at 4am so this photo was taken around 5:30am when the sun was peeking up over the horizon.

Lighting

Shooting twords the sun can be a risk, but sometimes produces great photos.

Equipment

At the time I was shooting with an old Olympus pen camera on a cheap mini tripod. If I found something I wanted to shoot I would pull over and put the camera/tripod on top of my car.

Inspiration

I liked the rail leading into the sun, I also liked the trees in the distance. I was looking for anything interesting to shoot, and this scene did out.

Editing

Even though this is a sun rise I used a sunset preset to pull out the color of the sky.

In my camera bag

I travel a lot so I keep things light. I use a mirrorless camera, I found a sturdy mini tripod I always take with me, a 30mm lens and a 40-150mm lens.

Feedback

Don't think that you can't find great landscapes around where you live. It's easy to have a bias against the place where you live because you see it every day, but it's worth taking your camera out and giving your local area a shot.
