Location
I took this photo in the Serengeti National Park, TanzaniaTime
It was actually in the middle of the dayLighting
The light was harsh but the Lion was in the shade under a tree as you can detect from the shadows cast on his body.Equipment
I used Nikon D750 with Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6Inspiration
The car was posted waiting under a tree for something to happen in an open area where a herd of antelopes was grazing. This Lion had been already spotted not far away from that area and slowly moved closer and closer using the few trees around as hides and shelters from the sun. The Lion intensity, scuffed beauty and the light showing through the branches of the tree under which the Lion was sheltering was enough to take this shot, an expressive moment in the life of the King.Editing
I did very little post processing as I usually do for wildlife photography. The photo is not cropped, I just barely increased saturation, sharpness, and reduced contrast. In my camera bag
I have two bodies, a Nikon D750 and Nikon D850, for lenses 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/4 and 200-500mm f/5.6. I also always have Nikon 20mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8 prime lenses. For tripod that I only very rarely use, a Feisol CT-3442 in carbon fiber.Feedback
Usually especially in Africa I don't go around in the middle of the day to take photographs. As we all know we try to concentrate shooting in the very early hours and close to sunset for a better light and more action. But if you can, also during the day, sometimes with some patience you might enjoy rare opportunities worth it a shot.
