Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. As a group of Plains Zebras was heading back from the river I was fortunate to spot this scene where two of them started walking towards each other to the point of having a nose-to-nose contact that is considered a form of greeting among adult
zebras. I wanted to catch this beautiful moment just before it happened and I am glad I was able to.

Location
This photo was taken in the south portion of the Tarangire Naional Park in Tanzania, a less touristic, beautiful area of the park.Time
We were in the Park really early in the morning. We headed towards a water hole where many animals go to drink. It was cloudy and overcast. We waited for a while, it was around 10am when finally a herd of zebras approached the water.Lighting
If it wouldn't have been for the overcast, the light would have been already too strong at this hour, possibly creating harsh contrasts. But it was perfect. Cloudy days create a beautiful filtered light that allow you to shoot all day. Fog, clouds, haze, are great photographic assets.Equipment
To take this photo I used Nikon D750 and the Nikon zoom lens 200-500mm f/5.6. I leaned on the car using a bean bag to support the camera and lens.Inspiration
I hoped for something special to happen when I saw a herd of zebras heading to the water. And patience paid off when two of them started walking towards each other. I have a few shots of the encounter but this is my favorite. I saw it coming, and catching the zebras just before touching each other nose was what I wanted. In addition I got the unpredicted extra of the swinging tail.Editing
I did very minor adjustments in exposure, sharpness and saturation in Lightroom. Also the picture is full frame uncropped. In my camera bag
First thing of course is my camera Nikon D750, also most of the times I have the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 to be ready for possible up close pictures and to place an animal in its environment. I always have the Nikon 70-200 f/4 and the 200-500 f/5.6. I addition in my pocket is the prime 20mm f/1.8. And a bean bag. This in my gear when I go for Wildlife photography, rarely I carry and use a tripod.Feedback
You need a lot of patience and luck I have to add. The light and the time of the day play an important role, so plan ahead if you can. Try to predict what might happen in a given situation and expect the unpredictable. And just wait, always be ready for a surprise and frame your pictures carefully.
