Location
This photo was taken in my back garden. I had recently bought my first camera and was avidly shooting everything and experimenting with different settings. We had recently experienced a devastating wildfire and a flock of these little whiteyes were regular visitors looking for food after their natural habitat was burned. They are incredibly quick and flit around constantly, usually hiding under leaves, so I was especially pleased when this little guy sat looking at me and posed for this shot!Time
This shot was taken early morning when everything was still wet with dew, making the colours more vibrant.Lighting
I wanted to capture the contrasting textures of feathers, wood and barbed wire while creating the idea of peering through the wet leaves.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 1300D at f/4 1/500s ISO500 with a focal length of 210mm on creative auto setting.I used a vintage 70-210 Canon lens which is really great for capturing mood.Inspiration
The moody colours were perfect in the early morning light and I tried to capture this.Editing
I cropped the top off the shot and removed the top strand of wire as it was a bit distracting. I also increased the colour saturation to make it more vivid. In my camera bag
I normally have my kit lens and an old Canon 70-210mm lens handy.Feedback
Early morning is the best time to shoot birds.
