Location
I took this photo in Matamata, New Zealand on a Photography Job with my friend who is pictured here.Time
It was around the afternoon, 4-5pm during Daylight Savings. It was a beautiful afternoon with a nice sunset.Lighting
I am a person who focuses on natural lighting or using your surroundings to create a great image. I prefer a more raw approach to photography, I'd almost call it organic (lol) but I used the lighting in the room and I believe I did use flash here, to create this image and give it a soft effect.Equipment
I used a Canon EoS 600D with an older Canon Portrait lens (which I believe was a 50mm) that my friend has swapped for my standard lens (18mm-55mm) for the job. No tripod and I cannot remember if there was flash.Inspiration
My inspirations stem from being in the moment or being surrounded by others - with reference to my last image 'Inception' which follows a similar concept here, I believe that I enjoy taking photos of others in their natural movements, having fun and being in the moment. If I remember rightly, I think my friend asked me to take a photo, and then she would take a photo of me. This was my result. My inspiration was the moment, and always has been.Editing
I don't do a lot of processing to my images, I add a pre-made filter here and there which I find to be quite amateur, however I prefer this because it keeps it close to the raw image without adding so many filters and masks/layers etc. I reduced the saturation to wash out the colour. Only thing that bugs me about the image is that my friends shirt has blended into the background. In my camera bag
I usually have my lens', my lens cap and my charging cable. You never know when a spontaneous adventure will commence!Feedback
If you want to recreate a style like this, just use your surroundings and make the most of the lighting and background that you have. The best images for me are created through natural movement, most of my work is slightly edited and I don't do much post-production work on my photos. If you want to recreate the post-production effects, just adjust the saturation and use cool tones. Use Rule of Thirds to position your subject in the frame and a portrait lens to make the subject your main focal point (this will blur out the background to get this effect).
