Location
I was driving on county roads in northwestern Minnesota, looking for a good place to shoot the sunset over a wide open field. I stopped by the side of the road and waited for the sun to get lower in the sky when I noticed these flowers. I started taking pictures of them and enjoyed how the shot changed as the sun continued to get lower until it was just barely in the shot. This ended up being my shot of the day rather than the sunset itself.Time
This shot was taken just before sunset.Lighting
The sun gave me all of the natural lighting I could ask for. I love working with light and shadow, most often using sunlight. This was a case in which all I needed was the sun to make this shot.Equipment
A Canon 7D Mark II with an l-series 100-400 lens.Inspiration
My inspiration was spontaneous, on location, and in the moment inspiration. As is so often the case for me, I came away with a completely different and better shot than I had set out to take.Editing
I took this picture before I started editing my photos. The sun gave me all of the best qualities of a photo that I needed on this one.In my camera bag
I shoot with a Canon 7D Mark II. Typically, I take two l-series lens with me, 24-70 and 100-400. These two lenses give me the range that I like for both up close and distance shots. I take my camera with me on every trip.Feedback
Take your camera out with you as much as you can, especially during sunrise and sunset. You never know what you will get until you play around with different ideas, shots, and locations. Sometimes it is a pleasant surprise :)
