On the night of July 11, 2016 a tremendous storm hit the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness area dumping up to 11 inches of rain on the area in just 4 hours! An EF1 tornado with 90 MPH winds, was confirmed in the area and the area was included in a declaration of disaster by Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder.
