The only thing I can say about this capture is WOW . To me it has everything a masterpiece should have . I am part Cherokee so the Pow Wows are very close to my heart . This shot has clarity , color and movement all made more spectacular by the black background . Congratulations Eddie This is well deserved and good luck in this Challenge.

Thank you so much! I love attending the Mahkato Pow Wow over the past 8 years. I have learned so much over this time. This photo is also a personal favorite of mine and a metal print hangs in our home.

Location
Each September, there is a gathering of Native American Tribal Nations in Mankato, Minnesota called the Mahkato Wacipi or Mankato Pow Wow! The mission of the Mankato Mdewakanton Association is to gather all the nations to celebrate and honor the traditions and ancestors and to build bridges between all nations through education, storytelling and sharing of the Dakota Indian culture! All visitors are welcome at the Land of Memories Memorial Park Sept 22-24, 2017. This photo was taken during the 2015 Grand Entrance when all the participants enter the ceremonial grounds to the sound of drums!Time
The Grand Entrance occurs at 1 PM on Sat. and Sun. and 7 PM on Fri. and Sat.Lighting
Full sunlight!Equipment
This photo was taken with my Nikon D7100mounted with a Tamron 16-300 mm Zoom lens with UV filter. The camera settings were ISO 140, f/6 at 1/500 exposure.Inspiration
I have attended the Mankato Pow Wow for three years and have taken about 4000 photos. What sets this one apart is the dancing action caught in mid step and the colorful ceremonial dress of the participant! I can hear the sounds of the drum and the chants when I look at this photo!Editing
There are a number of edits to the original photo. It was initially processed in Photomatix Pro 5 and then adjusted and cropped in Adobe Lightroom and finished in Snapseed. Finally a distractingly busy background was edited to black in Adobe Photoshop to create the final photo. In my camera bag
On this trip the bag and all the extra gear stayed in the car so I could be mobile and walk around in the crowd. I only had the Nikon with the Tamron Zoom on my person!Feedback
I would encourage everyone to attend a Pow Wow! It is a very powerful experience and you are sure to get some great photos! Then, Look at your photo with a critical eye and be willing to edit for the best piece of art you can create.
