If I am not mistaken this place has been re-constructed after the WWII. I was there in 1993 and I could see the changes from the communist regime!

Dear Laureen: Thanks for your comment, you are correct. In 1944, Hitler ordered that Warsaw be flattened and the population exterminated. Many were killed and the remainder shipped to Germany for slave labor. 85% of the city was flattened. To entice Russia to continue fighting in World War II, the allies promised Stalin that he could have Poland in the future. After World War II, the communists were not in much sympathy so there wasn't much rebuilding until 1991 when the Soviet Union broke up and Poland became an independent nature. You must have seen some amazing sights in 1993. At the time of my visit, the buildings looked perfect in having been carefully reconstructed. It has also been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the accuracy of reconstruction. :)

Dear Alessandra: Thanks for comment regarding Poland. At this time I am in Romania and love it, but not as much as Poland. The world is definitely and interesting place. Hope everything is well for you and your family. :) :)
