Cerulean Throne

I recently returned from a 3-week tour through the Canadian Rockies. The day I arrived was the first of Summer with temperatures rising, and stable weather patterns emerging. It made for challenging lighting conditions and I ended up shooting more blue skies that I ever have.

I was lucky enough to visit many areas including Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park where this image was taken. This area is mostly known for the view from the Niblet-Nublet featuring Sunburst Peak (pictured) and Mount Assiniboine. I rather enjoyed this view, isolating Sunburst Peak, and the reflections with the last of the ice floating on a calm cool morning. As the sun rose, clouds formed and danced across the lake. It was great shooting with Adam Gibbs who was kind enough to share some of his extensive experience of the area.

It had been a while since I had been in a wilderness area. Mount Assiniboine is a 22km hike in or a helicopter ride (we choose the later). Wildlife is prevalent, and running into other people on the trails never happened. With attendance at parks growing each year, moments of solitude in magical places are moments to be treasured. I will always be grateful for a chance to wander alone among thriving land where humans are mere casual visitors.
