At a certain point of the Finnish coast, the ground is still rising about 1 cm a year, after being freed from the ice of the latest ice-age. New islands are born within a human generation, and in a couple of thousand years, we can walk to Sweden from here (unless the rise of the sea level reverses the development. The Merenkurkku (or Kvarken) area is the only UNESCO nature heritage site in Finland.
