Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken whilst walking through my garden.

Time

Mid morning on a fresh sunlit winters day.

Lighting

Had filtered sun coming through the leaves of the trees, positioned the light so as to come over my back and had to ensure that I was not casting a shadow.

Equipment

Shot with a Canon 7D mkII and a Canon EF 70~200 f2.8L IS, no flash necessary and was able to get up close. Shot hand-held.

Inspiration

It simply presented itself, it was challenging in that the butterfly would not settle for long enough for me to get a shot, it eventually remained still long enough for me to get in a number of clicks.

Editing

Yes, used Lightroom for some minor adjustments, nothing over the top, there was no need to cropping. Vignette Amount -25 Clarity 40 That's it!

In my camera bag

As a wildlife photographer in Africa I carry quite a lot of gear, my two camera's are the Canon 7DMkII and my old faithful my 50D, as to lens's I have the Canon EFS 10~18, the EF 28~70L 2.8, the EF 70~200 f2.8L IS then the Tamron 150~600. Added to this is the Canon 100 f2.8 L IS USM Macro and a EFS 18~135 purely for video. Then a couple of other lenses for the occasion. The rest is normal stuff, tripod, flash etc.

Feedback

Patience, patience, patience, if you shoot wildlife trust me it's all about being in the right place / right time, regardless what the professionals say, they may be able to afford staying in a place for a lengthy period of time, or have access to facilities that most of us cannot get into, but they too have to be in the right place at the right time. So OK this does not apply to this photo, as it was shot in my garden.
