Houses in Key West, Florida costing millions of dollars live alongside simple cottages like the one pictured here. This type of house in Key West is often labeled a "conch house". The original settlers of Key West are called "conchs". The title of conch has extended to anybody born in Key West.
A conch house is wood and set on posts allowing air to circulate under the floor, although air conditioning is common because a Key West summer can be VERY hot! We go in the winter and air conditioning is often very welcome even then. Conch houses are rectangular and usually have a porch across the front of the house. The jumble of overhead outside wiring is also common, so I left it in the picture for authenticity. This particular house is probably over 100 years old and that's not uncommon.
An humble house in Old Town Key West could easily cost up to $1,000,000 or much more so if you want to buy a house in Key West, buy a winning lottery ticket or be rich already (in my humble opinion).
