Location
This photo was taken at Tinnahinch lock along the river Barrow, the county border between Carlow and Kilkenny in South East of Ireland. The river and it's environs provide me with such a source inspiration.Time
This shot was taken about three in the afternoon. I was trying out a newly acquired 70-300 zoom lens for my old Nikon D40. I was lying on the ground for about half an hour trying to get the correct composition.Lighting
Normal afternoon natural light. No flash or artificial light used.Equipment
Hand held Nikon D40 with 70-300mm Nikkor VR lens. Pop-up flash (if fired)Inspiration
The river is a constant source of photo opportunities for me, from nature, wildlife and landscape.Editing
I don't have LR or PS. I don't regularly do post processing except a touch of red eye or to straighten the horizon etc.In my camera bag
Nikon D3300, Nikon SB400 speedlight, CPL & UV filters, 18-135 & 35mm lenses. Remote control, spare batteries for camera and flash. Lens cloth and brush.Feedback
Patience and observation. The heron is a creature of habit who is territorial. Observe your subject.
