Behind The Lens
Location
When I met the love of my life, I was introduced to this beautiful area, her home town. After we got married we eventually moved to here. During the "Big Snow" of 2009/2010 we had temperatures down to minus seventeen Celsius. This is a view of the river from the Wood Road in Graiguenamanagh (Co. Kilkenny, Ireland) and includes many examples of local heritage.Time
This was taken about midday on the tenth of January. The weather is evident. The cold less so.Lighting
Nothing to note about lighting apart from the reflection of light from all the snow.Equipment
I was going around through lots of snow, on foot and traveling very light. This shot was taken with my first DSLR, a Nikon D40. A great camera. It was handheld with a pop-up flash. The lens was a Nikkor 18-135 and is such a versatile lens it was the only one I used for years.Inspiration
I was captivated by the scene which holds so many memorable and quintessential local images. The river itself has been instrumental in the development of the town, bringing the first settlers, Cistercian Monks from Shrewsbury in England, providing other transport and pleasure opportunities to this day. The eye is drawn to the bridge over the river, still standing since the mid to late eighteenth century, despite attempts to blow it up. Also included is the ruins of Butler's Castle, another historic piece of the past story of the town.Editing
I do not have lightroom or Photoshop etc. My photos are as they come out of the camera, with the exception of ddine red eye reduction etc.In my camera bag
