This photo was taken at Lake Wanaka on a foggy morningTime
It was taken about 9am in the morning in early May on a morning of fog and low cloud. There are always lots of photographers out photographing this tree so I had to keep walking around them until I found the light that appealed to me and didn't include them in my photo. I didn't use a tripod because I was more interested in getting the angle I wanted than worrying about perfect sharpness.Lighting
It was quite dark even at 9am due to the fog and low cloud.Equipment
It was a hand held shot with my Canon 70D and my 18 - 135mm lens.Inspiration
#ThatWanakaTree is pretty famous here in the South Island of New Zealand, it even has it's own facebook page. Everyone takes photos of this tree so I have always wanted to get my own photo. I am pretty happy with my version of the tree. Fog makes it different from the usual sunrise or sunset photo that you see.Editing
These days I always shot using RAW and then tweak it a little using Lightroom to bring out a little more color or detail. In my camera bag
I always have a basic ND filter in my bag plus 3 spare batteries, extra SD cards and my remote cable???Feedback
My advice is to take lots of photos at different angles at different times of day, especially if you are an amateur photographer like myself. Eventually, you will see what works for you with your equipment. Stand up, kneel, use a tripod, get up close, take photos at a distance. Digital photography is really cool because you can delete all those horrible photos and just keep the ones that you like and it doesn't cost you money to have them printed.
