This is in Fiordland on the Milford Track. Its the Mackinnons Pass. The weather is changeable but the views are always awesome. The mountain would appear one second. I'd get the camera out and it would be gone again. Luckily I was able to finally get a Shot.

This photo was taken in Fiordland on the Milford Sound Great Walk at McKinnons PassTime
It was taken late afternoon after a snow storm and the clouds kept going around and around. So I was trying to get a clear view of the valley below and saw this shot.Lighting
There were clouds all around and fog so it was quite bright in the sky, which is why I used the graduating filterEquipment
I used a Canon EOS 50D camera with an 18-35mm lens and a cheap graduating filter which gave off this purple colour which I quite like.Inspiration
This place holds a special place for me as this was where our Milford track walk ended. Due to old injuries, my friend and I were unable to continue on to the next hut. We made the upsetting decision to stop here at 3pm as there was no way we were going to reach the next hut we were destined for before nightfall and the last thing we needed was more injuries. We bunked down in this shelter for the night which is only allowed during emergencies. We were taken out by helicopter the next day. As I am not one to miss opportunities I decided to take as many photos as possible to help keep this place in my memories.Editing
I did use Lightroom to bring out the colors a little but as I am an amateur when it comes to Lightroom this was minimal. In my camera bag
I always carry my camera with a basic lens, a graduating filter, spare batteries and a small tripod, even on a great multiday walk with my large pack. You just never know when an opportunity like this will present itself. It was worth the extra weight and I believe always is.Feedback
My only advice is go out and take as many photographs as you can. Practice makes perfect. If a photo brings you joy then its worth taking. If you want to be a professional photographer then you need to take a course and follow the appropriate guidelines but if not just get out there and enjoy taking photos and capturing memories. A camera club helped me to get better images and Youtube is also a great source for help from other photographers.
