I was so excited to be able to get out for three nights in a row to photograph the Milky Way over the weekend! I had actually wanted to capture this earlier in the month but the clouds had not cooperated. I saw the potential for clear skies over Banff on Monday night and took a chance on heading out. My partner had never been out for a Milky Way chase and I was really hoping the skies would cooperate. I wanted the photos of course but I was also hoping that it wouldn’t be a bad first experience which might demotivate him from coming out again. When we arrived at my location everything was perfectly clear except for the southern horizon. So we took a nap and once it started to look like the clouds were moving out of the way, grabbed a few shots. During a few moment the Milky Way was totally unobscured. At the risk of sounding super gross, it was a pretty special night and being able to share one of my favourite things with someone important to me was pretty rad. He even did a really good job at standing still and not getting freaked out by all the glowing eyes (deer and sheep) peering out at us in the dark.

This is an absolute genius of a shot. The three distinct layers to the shot are exquisitely presented. I love this shot and all it's details.
