Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Sawtooth Mountain range of Idaho. I use to go on a five day backpacking trip and all I had was a cheap 35mm film camera (no brand) and I snapped this shot.

Time

It was close to mid afternoon and a couple of us were hiking around the lake just exploring. I looked back towards the far end which is where we had set-up camp and wanted a picture of camp. However, camp cannot be seen and I was lucky to have gotten the shot I did.

Lighting

Mother Nature provided the perfect lighting, at the perfect time and I was just in the right spot at that time.

Equipment

It was a cheap store brand 35mm point and shoot camera, no flash, no zoom, no tripod, just me and my cheap camera.

Inspiration

I have always taken photos to remember a vacation or a family event and this was one of those times. I wanted to remember this hiking trip and be able to share the memory with family and friends. There was another in our hiking trip that had a fancy camera and lens and they were teasing me about my cheapy and said I would never get any good shots. I told them, if I get pictures to remember this trip that was all that counted. Knowing what I know now and having the camera setup I have now, I would love to go back and re-take this shot but I don't think I could physically handle the 8 hour hike in with all the life sustaining supplies and equipment strapped to my back.

Editing

No, once we got back to civilization I took my film to the local department store that would develop it. My camera was a point and shoot and on auto all the time.

In my camera bag

Back then all I had was some spare AAA batteries, and film. Now I have my Nikon D5600, a couple of spare charged batteries, an extra memory card, tripod, a couple of filters and a couple of lens.

Feedback

Go with your heart and the equipment you can afford because you never know what you will be blessed with.
