This photo was taken at park in Croydon in early spring of 2016. Like many I am a self taught photographer & going out to the parks not only provided me time to practice taking pictures but also spending valuable tie with my husband.Time
This was taken on April 21st at around 2pm when there was a lovely bit of sunshine that made these purple crocuses look even more beautiful. There was a lot of crocuses that had grown around the shade of the trees at the beginning of the park & I was told this particular colour was a specific one to the park (pale purple).Lighting
I wanted the image to look a little ethereal as the contrast between the colour of the petals and pollen seemed to make the petals look almost like they glowed with happiness. It was quite a sunny day so I had the sun behind me to take these pictures so as not to over expose the image.Equipment
The shot was take on a Canon EOS 60d with a Cannon Zoom lens 28mm - 70mm. No Flash was needed and it was hand held. Focal length was at 70mm, ISO at 100, Aperture at f4 and exposure at 1/125 sec.Inspiration
I fell in love with taking photos of nature and colour as it shows so much beauty and depth to our world. Flowers are an important part of this so taking this pictures for me is about showing the love & respect I have for nature as well as the beauty of it all.Editing
I added a little bit of brightness to the image as well some vibrancy of colour to enhance the ethereal quality of the colours and petals, nothing else was needed. In my camera bag
I always carry at least 2 lenses: My Cannon Zoom lens 28mm - 70mm as it is great for portrait, landscape, street and macro photography. I also carry with me one or both of my sigma lenses - 10 - 20mm 1:4 - 5.6 (which is great for wide landscapes) & 70-300mm 1:4 - 5.6 ( great for macro shots). I always carry spare batteries and memory cards in my camera bag along with straps to stop neck ache!Feedback
Being patient and observant for me is a key point here. I try to go to lots of different local places and tend to go back at least 5-6 times. Each time I tend to get a few different shots but its about observing what may be different or how something has changed. For me I love seeing the transformation of winter to spring to summer & to autumn, seeing the range of colours and different plants and animals that appear. Getting used to using the manual mode can be quite tough, when I did this picture i used the macro mode and had not yet ventured to manual properly. To help this I used AV & TV modes and got practicing. I also looked at some of the good shots I had taken in pre-programmed modes to see what the apertures, ISO & exposures were so that I could try to recreate something similar. This made it a lot easier to start using manual mode more often.
