Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken at the butterfly farm in the natural history museum. I was quite new with using my camera at this stage so trying to capture the butterflies was a challenge.Time
This picture was taken in the morning of Aug 2014. It was a very warm day and even warmer in the butterfly area. This meant that my Lens was fogging up towards the end of the tour. I had a my micro fibre cloth handyLighting
The lighting used was a natural light and no flash was needed. I tried to make sure the light peeping in from the strong sun was behind me rather the butterfly.Equipment
A canon 60d,with a canon zoom macro lens, 28-70mm 2.8L. Hand held and around my neck.Inspiration
I absolutely love nature, butterflies are so colourful and portray the beautiful colours of nature. It was also a challenge to take a picture of something quite small that was moving fast.Editing
Not much post processing other than a bit of cropping and slight adjustments to vibrancy of the colours. In my camera bag
I normally have 2-3 lenses, my canon zoom 28-70 mm 2.8l, a macro sigma zoom lens & a sigma landscape lens. In my camera bag I also carry extra batteries, SD cards, micro fibre cloth and some filters (usually a UV and a polariser filter).Feedback
Make sure you visit butterfly tents early, it’s usually less busy and less hot than in the afternoons. Shoot quickly to get the pictures you want. I used an aperture of 4.0 with an exposure time of 1/125 and an ISO of 500. Now that I know more and practiced a lot more I would probably look to reduce the ISO and up the exposure/aperture accordingly.
