Dear Amanda: There is a considerable amount of artistry being performed with these spinning wheels and hand looms in Southeast Asia; however, the big story in this photo is that she is spinning thread made from lotus stems. It is among the most expensive fabrics in the world as it is not easy to capture and then process. Thanks for always making a smart comment! :) :)

Thank you as always for the explanations you give : I didn't know lotus stems could become a fabric. Have a nice day !

Dear Alessandra: Thanks for your comment. Spinning lotus thread was a new idea for me, too. They had scarves and some other items for sale, they were quite expensive. Learning new things is a great benefit of travel! :) :)

At this lake, they didn't do silk, only lotus stems that were made into thread. They had some beautiful materials for sale but so expensive. :) :)

Yes, thank you Iani. I agree, not only is the spinning wheel amazing, but she is using a thread drawn from lotus stems! Now I am in Poland and Austria for a month so have been falling behind in ViewBug! :)
