This was taken at the Memorial Day event in Sharpsburg, Maryland next to Antietam Battlefield. One of the Marines who landed on Okinawa, this veteran always strikes me as remembering the friends who are not able to stand next to him during the parades and remembrances.Time
This shot was in the early afternoon and the layout of events in Sharpsburg always makes utilizing sunlight a challenge that requires a lot of dancing to try and catch people at just the right time and location.Lighting

When shooting events, I try to find faces that will connect with people. Events are always an interesting mix of getting the "grand picture" and creating individual moments. Knowing there are scores of WW2 veterans dying every day, I always keep an eye out for those of the "Greatest Generation".Editing

When shooting events like this, I usually carry my A7R2 and A77 along with lots of extra batteries and a couple spare memory cards.Feedback
Big events make it easy to lose perspective in the crowds; I have gotten in the habit of looking for faces in the crowd and highlighting those to make something big personal and immediately identifiable.
