Behind The Lens
Location
The picture was taken in old Montreal, in a nice appartment with large windows. I had the possibility to shoot with this nice model.Time
It was aroud 11 in the morning, on a rainy day. Fortunatly with the large windows, the light was nice and the cloud made it soft, ideal for the atmosphere of this picture.Lighting
I had to find the proper angle to get a nice reflection, and I use the transparency of the curtain to have a density variation on the foreground.Equipment
The equipment for this picture was minimal. A Nikon D5100, with a 35 mm f1.8 lens to maximize the ligh. And a reflector to open the shadows.Inspiration
Since it was rainy, being close to the window set the mood. I searched for some kind of intimacy.Editing
The picture did not require a lot of post processing. Basic clean up, and darkening the windows to equilibrate the light from the outside with the one inside. It also made the reflexion more visible. In my camera bag
When I don't have to muche time with a mode, I try to have only the essential to make it easy to move from one set to another. A zoom lens, 2 flashes, and a flashbender kit.Feedback
I always have force myself to look at details. In the shoot, it is easy to let the shutter go and be in the action, capturing the pose of the model as it goes. But I often find details I missed on post-processing. I try to slow down this, looking more at each frame before pressing the button, that allows to do adjustment right away. In this case, that what I did with the curtain.
