Behind The Lens
Location
It was taken in the garden of the house that I used to live in on Gran Canaria. Shortly after this shot we got a puppy that proceeded to destroy this lovely passion flower plant.Time
It was taken at around 6pm on an early summer evening in May, when the heat of the sun had subsided a bit.Lighting
The lighting is totally natural.Equipment
Shot on a Nikon D70 using a 70-300 lens hand held. It was shots like this that led me to purchase a dedicated 50mm macro lens.Inspiration
I had a large garden that was wild and ran down the mountainside. We'd recently moved to Gran Canaria for work from the UK and, although Passion Flowers are among my favourite flowers, I'd never seen a white one before. Especially growing wild.Editing
I cropped the image into a square format and then tweaked the light and colour. I probably removed one or two little specs as well.In my camera bag
The Nikon D70 that I took this shot with has now been replaced with a Nikon D7200 although I still use the Nikon 18-70mm lens that I bought with the D70 as it's such a good standard lens. I also have a Nikon 70-300mm lens as well as a 50mm macro lens. I also have a Nikon flash but use it so rarely that I can't remember how to use it!Feedback
Try shooting at different times of the day and from different angles. I used the zoom lens so that I could stand back from the flower and not cast any shadows.
