These stone pillars at Gooseberry Falls State Park were built by the Civilian Conservation Corp CCC in the 1930s. At one time, they were all linked by heavy chains. Now, the waves and ice have moved some of the pillars and broken many of the chains. They are build on an old lava flow that juts into Lake Superior!
