The USS Cairo is one of the Ironclad ships built to patrol the Mississippi river during the civil war. This remnant is covered by a large tent to protect it from the elements and try to preserve it. You might have guessed that these ships were called Ironclad because of the metal covering the wooden structure. They bore names of cities along the Mississippi (Not Cairo Egypt).
