Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in front of my house, in Beloit, WI. I've never successfully grown flowers before but I finally got some perennials to stick in my yard. The bleeding hearts are always so pretty.

Time

I believe I took this about mid morning, the spot where it's at gets shade for most of the day.

Lighting

I have to shoot earlier in the day in this particular spot, otherwise my porch blocks the sunlight.

Equipment

Nikon d7100, 50mm lens. Just handheld since I was just taking a photo in my yard.

Inspiration

I love bleeding hearts, they come up earlier than a lot of other plants so when its still semi dreary here in Wisconsin we can get a picture of beautiful.

Editing

I did do some adjustments in photoshop. Mostly just to pop the color and make it as vibrant as it was in person.

In my camera bag

Always my Nikon D7100, sometimes my old D40 as a backup. I have the 50mm 1.8, the 35mm 1.8, and my 70 to 300mm zoom. This is why my shoulder always hurts when I'm out taking pictures. I've tried paring it down but then you always see something that needs the piece of equipment you left at home.

Feedback

Check the weather before you go. But not just the temperature. Check for rain, AND check the windspeed! It can be a gorgeous day but if nothing will sit still you won't get great pictures!
