Location
I took it by the river, about a mile or so from my house. My 13 year old son was with me, who also has an interest in photography and is learning to shoot on his own DSLR.Time
This was taken in the spring, into the evening, where there was still plenty of light, but with the river being next to a large hill filled with trees I was trying to hurry to make sure I did not lose the daylight I had to work with.Lighting
Just my camera and the natural sunlight. I'd love to take some baby ducks home and shoot them in a studio setup, but they just didn't seem too keen on that idea.Equipment
Nikon D7100, f6.3, 1/80 ss, ISO 200, 300mm focal point on a 55-300mm lens.Inspiration
We saw baby ducks, and rushed home to grab our cameras and get a little practice in. The ducks were so cooperative, and seemed to be posing for us. I had never actually seen a Mommy duck put her wing around babies like that before so it was a neat experience!Editing
I did a little color adjusting and some sharpening in photoshop. In my camera bag
Right now I have a D7100 along with a D40. Love my 7100, but my d40 comes in handy when it's a situation where you just need to throw it in auto and go for it! I also have an 18-55mm, a 55-300mm, and a 50mm 1.8 lens.Feedback
Patience, patience, patience. I tend to take too many pictures, but it also means I have more to choose from. Be willing to wait for the shot you want. I may or may not have been laying in the duck poop covered grass to get this particular shot!! Totally worth it by the way, it's one of my most favorite pictures ever!
