While out looking for mines in Nye County, Nevada, our map indicated a "grave" and sure enough, we found a solitary grave. It was marked Matt Costello, 1866-1926. After some internet research, we learned that he discovered the nearby Return Mine (silver) and sold it. Unfortunately, he died before he could enjoy any of his profits. The original headstone was stolen and a wooden replacement was put in its place. We are still pursuing his story, which according to the 1910 U. S. Census, begins in Wyoming. We did find a couple of really cool mines on this trip, but the lonely grave of Matt Costello made the biggest impression on me!
