Visitors and especially photographers flock to the reflecting pool at Angkor Wat every morning for sunrise. The resultant image is the picture-postcard, tranquil, harmonious, peaceful view of the ancient temple.
The reality of Angkor Wat at sunrise is completely the opposite. Tourists elbow each other in the ribs, jostling for position. Carefully-positioned tripods are kicked and nudged. Children weave in and out of the throng of humanity to sell coffee - much needed at 6 in the morning.
So for my photo, I walked to the opposite side of the pond, facing away from Angkor Wat, and turned the camera on the tourists.
