Behind The Lens

Location

I don't recall the exact location. One of those days just wandering around looking for photo opportunities driving the original Tamiami Trail (route 41, not 75). There are a lot of small places along the drive and we pulled in to see what was there. Looking around, taking some shots hoping for a few keepers when it started to rain as we walked by the birds. This blue and gold macaw just jumped out of the rain, its color, its size, its presence, the rain beading on its plummage.

Time

Typical Florida summer day. Afternoon storms roll through, helping to create some good lighting and opportunities. A lucky confluence and another example of keeping a camera with you and looking arounbd, maybne staying that few minutes longer.

Lighting

I like to use natural lighting. This is that type of situation.

Equipment

Taken with my very missed Sony A350 with a Sony 55-250 at f7.1 and 1/320. ISO was 800. Handheld with no other equipment.

Inspiration

The rain falling upon this proud bird just drew my eye.

Editing

Minor adjustments of contrast, white balance.

In my camera bag

Not a lot. Current equipment is a Nikon D3300, 18-140 and 55-200. Similar to the equipment I had with my Sony. Prefer working at short lengths but like the mid-tele lenses. That covers nearly all my needs and repositioning myself handles the rest. Small and large tripods and remote release rounds out the bag contents..

Feedback

Always look around in a 360 degree globe. Look for things you would not normally look for and take your time doing it. Get off the beaten path and go places you would not normally go and do not second guess ands hesitate to take a photo.
