Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the dinning room area of my house. I used the dinning room table to set up my display, which was a lot of fun as my dinning room is relatively small, so I had to maneuver the table close but not to close to my sliding doors to attain the right amount of light.

Time

Timing is everything, especially when it comes to the changing of the seasons where you live, you have to time it right to achieve the shot you want. This picture was taken on April 10th, 2017 just before noon, so the light was just right for the shot.

Lighting

I really wanted the light to bounce off the milk bottle, so the viewer would be able to see it clearly. I had to angle the bottle just right so it would happen and it was perfect, as I did not have t use a reflector.

Equipment

The equipment I used to achieve this shot was a Nikon D3200, tripod, and my Sigma D 18-250mm lens.

Inspiration

I was in a thrift store one day in the kitchen area and saw the bottle. Well it just got my attention based on what was on it and how it looked. It just reminded me of a farm and what life is like on it, and I wanted to recreate that in a photograph. I had the image in my head of what I wanted to achieve and I am happy that I was able to transfer what was in my mind onto a photographic image.

Editing

When I loaded my image into Lightroom, and saw how it looked on a bigger screen than on my camera I realized it was perfect just the way it is, even down to the little blotch on the egg. I just loved how it looked, so for me there was no need for any post processing on this image.

In my camera bag

In all honesty, I just have the basic equipment which consist of my camera, lens, cable release, diffusor and tripod.

Feedback

When trying to capture an image like this, it is best not to rush the shot. Even though the image consists of a milk bottle, eggs and a bucket I had to take my time in capturing the image I wanted. In Still Life or Food Photography your goal is 'less is more' as keeping it simple has a bigger impact than all of the strobe lights of a studio environment, trust me when I say that because I am still learning that myself.
