Behind The Lens

Location

Through the double pane glass of the front door that faces into the yard, is where the photo was taken.

Time

Mid day on a snowy winter one.

Lighting

A really gray day with snow gently falling. No flash used against the glass, of course.

Equipment

FujiFinePix HS20 EXR.

Inspiration

So many birds gather in the yard around the feeders etc., but it is rare to have a Flicker show up and actually pose for a shot. The tree made such a nice setting too, covered in snow. That tree in fact, started life as a tiny potted Christmas pine that got planted after the holiday ended, and has grown to nice proportions over the ensuing years. It shelters many birds now and offers a pretty back drop for photos.

Editing

Other than sharpen the image slightly and tweak the brightness, not much was done in post production.

In my camera bag

My primary color camera is currently a Fuji Finepix HS50 EXR and goes every where I do. Depending upon the photo trip however, I might also include an Olympus E-Volt 500 which is modified for infrared photography. The Fuji camera is a superzoom model that goes to 42x which makes it very flexible in all shooting conditions. The Olympus has the kit lens (14-42) and a short zoom (70-150) The camera sees in 590 nm range for "super color" as it is called.

Feedback

Honestly, it's all about timing and some luck. Keeping one's eyes open for opportunities, however mundane they may seem, can turn that into something magical. And the axiom of always having the camera handy helps considerably too. LOL.
