These first-winter sparrows, a white-crowned and a golden-crowned, are among the last of these birds to leave California for points north, east and some even east and south. Of course, these guys endured one hell of a hard winter in the Sierras for their first and both are molting in an identical fashion. Soon, they, too, will be off.
