A male spotted towhee, one of the beauties of Sierra Nevada foothills, has a golden-crowned sparrow along for a trip for some seed. Like a general, the towhee marches just ahead of his underling and bodyguard. Bird photographers covet the towhee, which uses the sparrows, part of the same animal family (note beaks), as a convenient and safe place for a respite and family company.
