The Mezquita is very famous. It was originally a mosque, but when King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled all of the non-Catholics from Spain in 1492, the building was expanded to surround the original structure with a cathedral. There are places in the building where you can see elements of both the Islamic and the Catholic design. In this section of the Mezquita, you can just see the Islamic elements, but the photo also gives a sense of the size and scale of the Mezquita. I first went to Córdoba in 2006, and went back in March, 2017, to visit it again as part of a longer trip through Barcelona, Andalucia, and Madrid.
