Emeryville is a small town, nestled between Berkeley and Oakland on San Francisco Bay. Today, it is a prosperous community, home to Pixar, various research labs, multiple shopping centers, hotels, and high-rise condos. But it wasn't always that way, as seen in this photo, taken in 1970 on 53rd Street near San Pablo Avenue. This young man, if he is still with us, would be old enough to collect Social Security.
