The wooden structure above the sailor is a "top" and is on every tallship at the top of each mast section. The shrouds running outwards from the mast to the outer edges of the top are the "futtock shrouds". In some ships there is a hole in the top for sailor to climb through (the lubber hole) but most who consider themselves sailors would avoid the lubber hole and climb out and around to the top of the top using the futtock shrouds. From the top they could use ordinary the "ordinary ratlines" to climb higher or go out on a boom to make sail (preparing to raise, lower or reef).
