Behind The Lens

Location

Just past the midway point on the Brooklyn Bridge walking towards Manhattan.

Time

It was just before 1am and we were walking back to catch a bus home to Boston.

Lighting

It was a cool September night and the sky was clear with very little light pollution making for a crisp long exposure.

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Canon 60D with a Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens on a collapsed tripod.

Inspiration

I had taken a similar photo the year before and I was hoping to shoot as close to the same place on the bridge and compare it with my shot from the previous year.

Editing

Just a simple edit using Lightroom to balance out the lighting and contrast and enhance the shadows a small amount.

In my camera bag

I normally carry (2) Canon 60D bodies along with a Rokinon 8mm fisheye, Canon 16-35 f2.8L, 24-70 f2.8L, and 70-200 f2.8L.

Feedback

Be patient, especially in a crowded tourist location like the Brooklyn Bridge. Wait for the shot to be clear of pedestrians and movement. And take as many shots as you can using different f-stops and exposure lengths. A tripod and cable-release will also help keep the shot crisp and focused.
