Behind The Lens

Location

Martin Mere Wildfowl Wetlands Centre, Ormskirk, UK.

Time

The photo was taken at the 3pm feeding time at the Centre.

Lighting

The lighting was incident to the swans, enabling the yellow beaks to be caught rather than being a silhouette.

Equipment

Canon 40D with a 300mm lens

Inspiration

Thousands of birds come and go from these wetlands. The Whooper swans fly in and splash into the water in a most dramatic way. Their sounds fill the air. This scene was being repeated all over the large area of water.

Editing

I used a water colour art mask with a slight cross hatch after tweaking the contrast.

Feedback

Continuous shooting mode for this sort of action shot helps to pick the perfect moment.
