The dragonfly has become the popular subject in photography. Part of the reason, I think, is that they do not seem to be very afraid of the photographer. Often they will stay in one place for long enough for several shots. They actually seem curious.

This one perched on the chair, flew off to grab a mosquito, then came back to eat it in front of me. It's hanging from his mouth.....

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, suborder Anisoptera. They are predators, both in their aquatic larval stage, when they are known as nymphs or naiads, and as adults. Several years of their lives are spent as nymphs living in fresh water; the adults may be on the wing for just a few days or weeks. They are fast, agile fliers, sometimes migrating across oceans, and are often found near water. (Info from Wikipedia)

Nice find and capture. Also liking the education you have included. All too often we forget to add informative wording to let others learn. :)

A superb capture.
The detail is exquisite, showing the intricate patterns of its wings, and rich colors of compound eyes.
The soft, organic forms and subdued colors of the background, mimic the the qualities found in the dragonfly, adding depth and interest to the image, without detracting from the main subject.

Awesome job! How come everyone else finds these little guys, except me? :)
