Behind The Lens

Location

This garden fox was taken at a wildlife day experience as these days it can be hard to find wildlife in the town I live in and I wished I live in the countryside at times. I am a self-taught photographer that if an opportunity arises whether it is an experience day or just taking the day out to see if that opportunity arises to get that perfect shot that, that all photographers always strive to achieve I will take it.

Time

This image what shot quite a while ago as far as I can remember it was mid-afternoon, possible one of the worst times to take a photo, the ground was damp so had to kneel on one knee which isn't the most comfortable of positions when you have bad knees like me!

Lighting

Apart from been lucky with the lighting at the time as it was mid-afternoon and some post-processing done in lightroom, I must have taken quite a few to get this particular shot

Equipment

Canon 5D MK III, handheld, ISO 1600, F4.5, 1/250, No flash, 70 - 200 F 2.8 + x2 Extender

Inspiration

I always try to learn and will to try out different settings on the camera, I took a few shots with different settings and different lenses this one came out the best, due to the focus on the eyes. and just the way the fox was looking through/around the foilage

Editing

Yes, was a just a few tweaks with the colour and brightness and a slightly added swirl effect through lightroom

In my camera bag

Seems like everything and the kitchen sink!, If I am doing an event shoot it will be 2 bodies Canon EOS 5D MkIII and MkIV, lens EF24 105, EF 70 -200 F2.8 MK2, EF24-70 F2.8 Mk1, EF 16-32 F2.8 Mk1 and a couple of the canon flashguns If I out on landscapes I try and travel light as possible 1 Body, the 24 -70 F2.8 lens, EF 16-32 F.28 lens, Lee ND filter, as well as the 10 Stop and Gitzo tripod, sometimes I take the EF70-200 as well.

Feedback

I think the best advice I can really think off is like every other photographers advice to get that shot, do research on the internet, see what has been taken before and come up with something different. A photograph is a point in time and 99.99% of that time it will never be the same as light, seasons, are all varied depending on the time of year, some times photographer can take 1000's of images and watch the subject for over a year to get the perfect shot, sometimes it can just be luck on your side.
