Made in Lodz, Poland. The artist Joanna Rajkowska recovered the very dark courtyard of the first Hotel in this city, by adding innumerable pieces of broken glass to the walls. She decided to give her work the form of glass roses , because her daughter Rose was fighting against a nasty form of blindness."The artist’s intention was to leave the viewer amazed at the mere possibility of sight. The architectural skin that has grown on the Polski Hotel’s annexes is nothing else than a retina, the eyes’ light-sensitive instrument. So, the viewer’s eyes in actuality look at themselves. The sole fact that moving by one millimeter results in a completely different view of the mosaic’s reflection, proves an image relative and dependant on the eye’s capabilities, point of reference, and the possible perspective ."
