Location
The old Lighthouse at Garðskagi in the Reykjanes Peninsula, Southwest Iceland.Time
Towards dusk. One of the last shots I took that day.Lighting
As it usually is shooting in Iceland, the low lying cloud cover gives you the sense of quiet, foreboding, serenity.Equipment
At the time, I was using a Mamiya C330 tlr with the standard 80mm lens. Handheld at waist level. Film was Kodak safety film 6010, VericolorII Professional Type S.Inspiration
The cloud cover had been like this the whole day. When I came upon this abandoned lighthouse it just looked surreal. Very quiet, muffled sounds.Editing
Since this was film, I scanned it and put it through corrective moves that brought back the mood and feeling I had about it that day.In my camera bag
Then, back in 1978, it would be the Mamiya C330, Bronica ETR, and a Nikon Ftn. Today, it is mostly digital with Canon 7D, 6D, multible lenses and flash, tripod, batteries, etc. I no longer have the Mamiya, but I do occasionally carry the Bronica along for scenic shots.Feedback
I try to take a photograph of how the scene effects me at the time. This was a very damp, dreary, dismal day. It had been overcast with low lying clouds and the feeling of an impeding storm on the horizon. I was alone, this lighthouse was alone. I connected to it. I took the photograph.
