This 2nd Century castle was originally built as a mausoleum for his family by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The castle was very close to the hotel I was staying in during a very brief visit to Rome and I spotted it as I walked along the banks of the Tiber during my first night there. It is usually photographed from the St Angelo Bridge but I wanted something a bit different and, if I'm honest, less crowded. I didn't have a tripod with me so I steadied the camera on a wall.
