Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken at Kinderdijk in the Netherlands. This place is really epic! These old windmills are in a really good condition and the people who are the owner are really proud of them!

Time

This picture was taken in summertime around July and 20 minutes after sunset.

Lighting

A nearly clear sky with some light from the golden hour.

Equipment

I do remember this moment very well. These windmills are more then 2 hours away from my home and as I arrived there I had forgotten my tripod....never had this before...So I need to used some "tricks" to get my picutres. This picture is a handheld one. The camera was my Canon 1D X with Canon 16-35mm, F4.0 mounted. The IS on this lens was my "luck"! So I was able to shoot with 1/8 a second!!! ISO was at 400 and F7.1.

Inspiration

I saw some pictures from that location and wanted to go there, too.

Editing

Yes of course I did post-process this picture in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

My Camera and a backup, one or 2 different wide angel lenses, filters, tripod, tele lens, memory cards.

Feedback

First of all it is necessary to get in contact with the area you want to shoot. Where is the spot where you want to take the picture? Is there an example and you want to to something compareable?. Be prepared for the weather and the wind conditions. Check the sunrise and sunset time and direction. If you do so you are good prepared for the most sitiuations in the field.
